Sarah loves color and the feel of fabrics, using both to their best advantage in a traditional Southern style that is informal and traditionalist with an individual twist. Especially fond of 18th and 19th century English furniture, she likes to balance splashes of bright colors with the traditional and solid look of old wood. Sarah's mother, an antiques dealer, accustomed her to poking around shops and restorers for just the right pieces.
Sarah believes that how a room feels when you use it daily is equally important to how it looks when you walk in. She tries to incorporate treasured family pieces with a history in a manner that flatters those pieces rather than displacing them.
With an undergraduate degree in Interior Design from the University of Louisville and a Master's degree in Home Economics and Art, Sarah has taught at the secondary level and has served as Adjunct Professor of Interior Design at the University of Evansville. After a practicum at Allen House in Louisville, Sarah became Managing Partner at Thornton Ferrara in Newburgh, Indiana. She joined Bittners interior design team in 1991.
Sarah's work appears in commercial executive offices and residences in Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and Indiana. Her work has been featured at Bristol Myers-Squibb, Western Branch Library and Floyd Memorial Hospital.
She received several ASID Chapter's Distinguished Service Awards and has served as Chapter Treasurer. Sarah is also an active member of the Women's Club of Louisville and a sustainer in the Junior League of Louisville.
