Lee Purcell Best - ASID

Vice President - Interior Designer

After graduating with a degree in art history and graphic design, Lee began her career in interior design, working at the Strassel Company in Louisville before joining Bittners in 1979.

Her personal interests include antiques, gardening and the arts. She serves on the boards of the Louisville Ballet and Whitehall, one of Louisville's Historic Home properties. She is also a member of Focus Louisville and The Women's Club of Louisville. Through her travels, based on tours of European homes and gardens, she gains inspiration for local projects.

Lee served on the design committee for the Governor's Mansion in Frankfort, Kentucky. She did the design work and supervised the construction and restoration of the Brennan House, the Peterson-Dumesnil House, and the office of the president of Bellarmine College, all in Louisville. Lee recently completed a project for Labrot & Graham Distilleries in Woodford County, Kentucky. Her work on this project ranged from the updating of a deserted nineteenth-century distillery on the National Registry of Historic Places, to the completion of the Conference Center and Visitors Center, which won an AIA state award for adaptation of an existing structure and additions of a new structure.

Lee has served as an antiques author for Southern Accents, and copies of her work have been published in Louisville Magazine and The Courier-Journal.
