From a very early age, Amy has been influenced by the interiors surrounding her including the antiques that were part of her environment growing up in Kentucky. With this early interest in design, Amy pursued a Studio Art degree at Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Illinois and also received a minor in business. As an interior designer and artist, Amy benefits from a valuable advantage in working with colors, patterns, scale and proportion.
In school, Amy participated in a drawing tutorial in Oxford, England and while there studied about English interiors and culture. During the summers of 1994 and 1995 Amy gained early experience with Bittners working closely with the designers as a Resource Room Assistant. She has studied architectural renderings and worked on portfolio projects with famous artists including William Wegman and Michael Croyden.
After completing her studies in art and business, Amy joined an interior design firm in Lake Forest, Illinois. Amy completed two Chicago Showcase Home projects. One of these projects was voted "favorite room by the public" and named by the Chicago Tribune as the "most spectacular room." Additionally, Amy worked on two Howard Van Doren Shaw estates in Lake Forest that utilized her experiences with English interiors. With the Chicago Merchandise Mart nearby, Amy was able to stay abreast of new products and receive further inspiration for her interiors. Upon moving back to Louisville, Amy rejoined Bittners as a full-time Designer in February 2000. Since her return, she has come to love designing custom made furniture with clients through Bittners' Custom Furniture Shop. From concept to completion Amy is there every step of the way. "The opportunity to design a piece with a client that is truly custom is an honor. Taking part in each detailed selection from the wood to the finish is so personal and special. Seeing the beautiful outcome and a delighted client is truly gratifying."
Her work ranges from traditional English and French to sparsely modernistic projects. Amy has a passion for English and French antiques and some of her favorite work concentrates on elegant yet comfortable family living. In addition to residences throughout the Louisville area Amy has worked on a wide variety of projects including estates in Lake Forest, IL, log cabins, second homes and even a child's playhouse. Her major commercial projects include Big Spring Country Club and the Cardinal Club Clubhouse. Amy is also an active board member of the Ronald McDonald House and the Louisville Theatrical Association.
